The Eighth Doctor
The 8th Doctor wasn't given much of a chance on screen. His one appearance on the TV movie was limited, but he had a lot of potential. Since 2001, he has been reborn in audio form, starting with Charley Pollard. She left him for a younger man (well, the same man) and found a life long friend. Then he was hoisted with Lucie Miller, a brash northerner, whose life was ruined by the Time Lords. After years of travel, she lost him to Morbius, and, after finally getting him back, she found out a terrible secret that stayed with her until the end.
"Once upon a time, in a land not too dissimilar to ours, there lived a king. And he was a good king; in an age when good was something of an unfashionable rarity. He was very very wise, and very very powerful. But he was also very very old. And he realized that for all his great wisdom, and his great power, he would soon have to leave his kingdom once and for all and make the journey to the outside world of infinite darkness."
